03/28/2024 – The GRENKE Chess Classic takes place from March 26th to April 1st in Karlsruhe, Germany. The tournament will feature six players: World Champion Ding Liren and World No.1 Magnus Carlsen, plus Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Vincent Keymer, Richard Rapport and Daniel Fridman, who will compete in round-robin matches, with two rounds per day at the “slowed fast” rate (counting towards the fast Elo rating) of 45’+10”. At the end of the 10 games, the top two finishers will battle it out for the final victory – respectively 3rd against 4th for the bronze medal and 5th against 6th for the final 5th place. If the score is 1:1, a round-robin play-off at 10’+2”, then, if necessary, another at 5’+2”, then, if necessary again, an Armageddon (6′ for White against 5′ for Black) will decide the game.
