In 2019, Gukesh beat Grzegorz Gajewski in a game of the Rapid World Championship.
The Polish GM, then 34, was known more for his strategies than his titles; Gukesh, meanwhile, was 13 and had just earned the GM title. A little later, Viswanathan Anand brought them together again at the Westbridge-Anand Chess Academy, where Gajewski trains India’s brightest young talents.
Then, in December 2022, Anand decided that the young player now needed a full-time coach working exclusively with him.
“What do you think?” the former world champion asked Gajewski, and Gajewski replied, “He’s a fantastic guy, I love the idea of working with him.”.
“They tried it and it worked. It was love at first sight,” concludes Vishy.

Note that the correct pronunciation of its name is “Je-gosh”.
