After several French female chess players spoke out last summer against the sexist and sexual violence they had suffered, the French Chess Federation decided to tackle the issue head-on. On Thursday, the FFE announced through a press release several measures to tackle this scourge.
Educators, coaches and referees will all have to attend an awareness-raising module.
Recognizing that the current regulations are “obsoleteTo combat discrimination, including sexist and sexual violence, the Federation will publish new disciplinary regulations in February. These will specify the procedures for “precautionary suspension and to refer these issues to the relevant authorities.
Educators, coaches and referees will all have to attend a two-hour awareness-raising module on sexist and sexual violence in order to obtain or retain their diploma. Communication campaigns within clubs and French teams are also planned. The Federation also plans to introduce “a network of club referents”. and distribute guides for minors, parents and supervisors, written with the Colosse aux pieds d’argile association.
