08/03/2025 – Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Yakubboev and Denmark’s Jonas Buhl Bjerre battled it out for first place at the Prague Challenger tournament. At the end of the 9-round championship, they had each accumulated 7 points. A tie-break was held to determine which of the two players would take part in next year’s Masters. The Uzbek dominated the first tie-break game with Black for a long time, but crashed out on the 108th move and was very lucky to escape with a draw after an error by the Dane. The second game ended much more quickly, after Bjerre made serious errors at the 21st and 24th shots. Marc’Andria Maurizzi takes third place on the podium. Photo: Petr Vrabec, Prague Chess Festival.
