04/15/2025 – After taking the lead in Sunday’s match, Magnus Carlsen didn’t allow Hikaru Nakamura any realistic chance of a comeback in the final of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam stage in Paris, as he secured tournament victory with a draw. Fabiano Caruana beat Vincent Keymer in their two-game match to take third place. In the match for fifth place, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took the lead against Arjun Erigaisi in a must-win situation. However, the Frenchman’s advantage evaporated at the end of the game after a long struggle. MVL had to settle for a draw and sixth place. Nodirbek Abdusattorov battled for 70 moves against Ian Nepomniachtchi, looking to win the game and tie the match, but in the end the Russian took the final 7th place by winning 2-0.
