Caruana and Donchenko win the Saint Louis Masters

09/12/2024 – Just after the US Master, Fabiano Caruana traveled to St. Louis to continue his fishing for points towards the final ranking of the 2024 FIDE Circuit, first place of which secures a ticket to the 2026 Candidates Tournament. The world No. 2 was logically in the lead before losing, with White, to Alexander Donchenko in the final round. The Italian-American is thus forced to share first place, but he is still racking up enough points on the Tour to take a clear lead in the provisional ranking, which only Arjun Erigaisi looks likely to challenge, if the Indian performs exceptionally well in the Qatar Masters and the World Blitz and Rapid Championships at the end of the year.
