22/12/2024 – With a crushing 4-1 victory over Ian Nepomniachtchi in the final, following on from the 3½-1½ inflicted on MVL in the ½-finals and the first-place finish achieved with 6/7 in the preliminary round, Magnus Carlsen has once again demonstrated his supremacy in the chess world by winning a fifth consecutive title in five editions of the Champions Chess Tour, which the Norwegian himself created in 2020 to give his colleagues the opportunity to experience chess despite the insane politics of planetary containment. As it turns out, the online format is taking on such a large scale in terms of prize money, that it’s possible that soon the very best will no longer deign to travel to traditional tournaments that can’t keep up at this level of finance, and that these will become a museum piece or a meeting place for the “beggars”. The Champion Chess Tour 2025 will be a qualifier for the World Cup of Esports, to be held in… Saudi Arabia, from July 31 to August 03, with colossal sums of money up for grabs.
