03/12/2024 – Fabiano Caruana took part in the US Masters to collect points on the FIDE circuit, and it wasn’t a bad investment for him. Despite a loss in round 6 to Nikolas Theodorou, he won the remaining eight games, amassing 17.11 points on the circuit, propelling him to second place in the provisional rankings. The player with the most points in 2024 will qualify for the 2026 Candidates Tournament, and it’s a race between Caruana and Erigaisi, although Nodirbek Abdusattorov still has a slight chance. After the U.S. Masters, Caruana heads to Saint Louis to rack up tour points at the Saint Louis Masters, which starts on December 03. Meanwhile, Erigaisi and Abdusattorov will try to earn points at the Qatar Masters, which starts on the same day. The last chance to earn the points needed to win the circuit will come at the end of the year at the Rapid and Blitz World Championships in New York. Photo: Charlotte Chess Center.
