07/04/2025 – From April 07 to 14, Paris hosts the second stage of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam 2025. On the first two days, the 12 participants (including MVL) compete in the championship mode at a fast pace (10′ +10”), with the top eight qualifying for the knockout phase at the classic pace (90′ +30”). Note the surprising withdrawal of Alireza Firouzja, followed two days later, i.e. less than 48 hours before kick-off, by the withdrawal of Hans Niemann, who had received a generous wild card! It’s true that the organizer had announced a few days ago the “implementation of the most serious anti-cheating measures ever applied in a chess tournament”… The Frenchman was replaced by Hungarian Richard Rapport, while the American gave way to Nodirbek Abdusattorov. | To be continued here with official live commentary.
