Beaten in round 7 by Alireza Firouzja, Gukesh Dommaraju has apparently overcome his disappointment. The Indian reacted immediately with victory over his compatriot Vidit Santosh Gujrathi. After eight rounds, this victory puts him back at the top of the ranking (5/8) alongside Ian Nepomniachtchi, who shared the point with Nijat Abasov.
The duel between the Americans turned in favor of Hikaru Nakamura, who defeated Fabiano Caruana with the whites and moved ahead of his opponent, making an impressive comeback (4.5/8). He’s still in the running.
The same cannot be said of Alireza Firouzja, who came up against Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
