Magnus Carlsen is once again on top of the chess world. On Wednesday, in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), the Norwegian retained his title as world champion in rapid cadence. Russia’s Vladimir Fedosseyev finished second, just ahead of China’s Yu Yangyi. France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took a fine sixth place. This is the sixth time Carlsen has won this title.

In the women’s category, Anastasia Bodnaruk won her first world championship title. Tied in the final with India’s Humpy Koneru, the Russian won the tie-break. China’s Lei Tingjie completed the podium.
