Three days after his rapid-fire title, Magnus Carlsen once again shone on the chess planet. On Saturday in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), the Norwegian won his seventh world champion title in blitz. Russian Daniil Dubov finished second, just ahead of his compatriot Vladislav Artemiev.
France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave took a fine fourth place, being the only player to inflict defeat on the world champion.
Second title for Valentina Gounina
In the women’s category, Russia’s Valentina Gounina was crowned blitz champion for the second time in her career, after winning the title in 2012. She beat Switzerland’s Alexandra Kosteniuk and China’s Zhu Jiner.
