Magnus Carlsen sells the “forbidden jeans” at auction

Magnus Carlsen has a sense of humor. Having stormed out of the last World Rapid Chess Championships at the end of December after wearing jeans, which the International Chess Federation had criticized him for, the Norwegian has responded with humor. Via the dedicated Ebay site, the five-time world champion put the pants up for auction.

The forbidden jeans can now be yours, Carlsen ironized on his X account. I never thought I’d write that sentence, but here we are. All profits from this operation will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America,” he added.

The campaign comes against a backdrop of tense relations between the Norwegian and Fide. A few weeks after the jeans incident at the World Championships, he was banned from awarding a “world champion” title in “Freestyle Chess”, an alternative and “fun” practice of the game he promotes.
