Vidit secures final ticket for Paris leg of Freestyle Grand Slam

16/03/2025 – Vidit Gujrathi has qualified for the Paris leg of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam, to be held from 07 to 14 April, after winning the online Play-In phase, which ran from 08 to 14 March in three phases. After two open qualifiers, a nine-round Swiss tournament took place on Wednesday, qualifying four players – Amin Tabatabaei, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Rauf Mamedov and Pranesh Munirethinam – who joined twelve other players automatically qualified for the knockout phase, which took place on Thursday and Friday. Vidit put in an impressive performance with victories over Ding Liren, Pranesh, Tabatabaei and Richard Rapport. His success was made all the more remarkable by the fact that he won all his matches in the initial two fast games.
