Gukesh Dommaraju won the third match of the World Chess Championship in Singapore on Wednesday, coming level with defending champion Ding Liren of China. Thanks to his success with white pieces, the 18-year-old Indian grandmaster erased the defeat he suffered with white pieces in the first of the fourteen scheduled rounds.

The second round on Tuesday had ended in a draw after a repeat of the move: despite a slightly favorable position, Ding Liren had not wished to push his advantage any further.

Before the rest day on Thursday, the two players are tied on 1.5 points each. Whoever achieves 7.5 points will become world champion, and faster-paced games will be organized if necessary to break the tie.
